Animal Farm is one of the most famous books by George Orwell besides 1984. Published in 1945, the book is an allegory to the formulation of the Soviet Union. Even being a socialist, George Orwell has deconstructed the communist philosophy to its roots and given a satirical account of the events that unfolded during the Russian Revolution.
The book is nothing short of a masterpiece as it unveils the hidden evil in the roots of communism and how the greed and will to the power of corrupt elites can make a population of million pay the price.
Overthrow of Oppressors
The principal philosophy behind any communist idea is that there are oppressors, and there are oppressed. Oppressors take control of people’s lives by making significant decisions. In Animal Farm, humans were the oppressors of the animals, which was why the animals decided to overthrow their masters so that they could live freely after. They can have equal rights and freedom and can thrive without any boundaries in their lives.
Peace and Harmony
Pigs were the animals’ leaders in the rebellion in the book. When they defeated humans and took control of the farm, pigs took the initiative to make the farm peaceful and accessible for the animals. Even though the communist vision aims for peace and harmony, some procedures and steps must also be fulfilled. Rebuilding is one of the aspects of a revolution, but starting from the beginning has its hardships, and primarily lives are the price.
Inner Conflicts
First of all, the pigs took command of the farm and led roles in the animals, but now there were two pigs named Snowball and Napolean, both of them disagreed on everything, and there was this inner conflict of power between them. They were the same, but in a magnetic sense, they repel each other on almost everything, and one has to step back. Initially, Napolean took a step back and gave the command to Snowball, who aimed to rebuild the farm with his visions, which was practically possible.
New Ruler/Oppressor
Under the guidance of Snowball, the farm builds new things and is pretty successful in a short time, but one day, Napolean comes back with an army of dogs and attacks Snowball, who runs and saves his life. Snowball being deaf, was exiled from the farm, and now a new leader had emerged.
Napoleon took over the commands Snowball by lying and spitting conspiracy theories about Snowball and how he sided with humans. Some animals believed Napolean, while some had their doubts, but no matter the situation, a new
All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.
Under the reign of Napoleon, animals worked so hard that some of them lost their lives, and some animals who betrayed the so-called commandments of the farm were killed even though one of the commandments was that ‘no animal should kill the other’.
Famines were the major problems of the farms. Napolean took cover in the human house, now walking like a human. All the luxurious works were done by pigs and their population striving while other animals struggled to live correctly for a single day. This was the scenario at the end of the story.
Crisis of the World
Communism and socialism are based on the premise of equality, and there is no difference between them. No system is perfect, but how can we determine the disastrous potential of any philosophy on the political spectrum? In Animal Farm, Orwell demonstrated that these philosophies demand a lot of lies to function correctly. The hypocrisy of these utopian philosophies needs to come to light.
There are many reasons that the Soviet Union collapsed, but one of them was that their lies couldn’t hold them any much longer. No matter how hard you try to bury the truth, it has a way of returning, and that’s what history has taught. Truth is bitter, and no one wants to hear it, but sooner or later, it will come right in your face with a mirror in its hands and expose the darkness of your soul.
