We live in a modern world which is powered and driven by technology. Technology is backed up by innovation, scientific development and research. Technology has changed our lives for the good.
And generally, we hear that technology has also changed the environment and affected it drastically. The part of the last statement is genuine, but it’s not explained so that all the data and facts are checked or briefed.
Technology is always taken negatively when its effects are mentioned on the environment. Everything has its advantages and disadvantages. Technology has not created an ecosystem where all the environmental species are thriving. Still, it has done more good than bad for the environment, and it is the only way by which we can save the planet from the threats that can appear shortly.
A Thing About Environment
The environment is the culmination of all the surroundings that exist on our planet Earth. It took around 4 billion years for life to appear on this planet. And humans are by far the most neurological developed species on this planet. Our intelligence has created so much chaos and destruction in the past, but the same intelligence has regulated chaos and generated order.
So, in the same way, when human minds thrive and create something unique or life-changing, there are some sacrifices that we have to pay. Generally, the growth of any civilisation is paid for by the people. Still, at the same time, our local environment also suffers or gets impacted.
The addition of these local environments worldwide leads to an impact on the global scale.
Take plastic for an example; the invention of plastic was one of the most significant innovations of the previous century that changed millions of lives for the better but proved devastating for the environment. This list of extraordinary human inventions includes coal engines, radio frequency transmissions, industrial revolutions, mining and many more.
Innovations and Human Life
These innovations elevated human life worldwide, but the environment paid the price. We destroyed our lands, leading to deforestation, soil erosion, pollution, and ultimately loss of land, which is very hard to restore. Technology also changed the way we live and interact with each other. Social life, transactions, multimedia consumption, and working have all been changed by technology. Now a person spends half his day on the internet.
As far as the 21st century is concerned, the internet is one of the most significant technological innovations, next to the invention of computer systems. But as stated in the above paragraphs, the technology’s environmental impacts were the side products, and nothing could have happened differently.
But now we have the technology to monitor the impacts and damage, and the best we can do is to utilise this technology to undo some of the problems that were generated by the innovation of the past. Blaming people, big tech or politicians will not change anything. It will make matters worse. The best thing we can do is dig deep into these problems and try to figure out a solution that will be fruitful for the entire population and upcoming generations. Radical ideas taken in emotions and hurry will only make matters worse for everyone.
A Basic Supposition
Suppose technology is to be blamed for the negative impacts on the environment. In that case, the technology will bring about positive change in the world. That way, progress and conservation of the entire planet will go hand in hand.
Technology can be framed behind a lot of causes. Factories can be blamed for pollution, increasing infrastructure can be blamed for the loss of land, and large-scale manufacturing can be blamed for the loss of wildlife. But at the same time, this technology is providing a better quality of food and shelter to people.
Experimentation to a Better Future
Experiments performed in labs with harmful chemicals and animals have eliminated life-threatening diseases. Also, coal has been a primary power source for the whole planet. Now throwing all this development through the window is not an option. The viable solution should be using and upbringing innovative ideas that will replace the current scenario but in a way that does not impact people economically.
At present, we have already seen a lot of amazing inventions and practices that have been beneficial in reducing the human impact on the environment.
Such practices include electric cars against coal, degradable plastics, mobile houses, nuclear power plants, vegetarian lifestyles, etc. All these ideas can lead to a future where human beings can thrive in a better without damaging the ecosystem in which they thrive. All these ideas need support and acceptance.
Average Population in the Change
And the average person should be the one to take a stand and accept these innovations the way they are. Only we can support new scientists, researchers, inventors and independent workers working day and night to create a better world. These people need our support; bragging about their ideas will not change anything. Change comes from the individual, and if the individual is not accepting change, then there is no other way to solve these issues. One way to convince individuals is through conversation and offering better value to their assets than the present technology.
That way, more and more people will accept the future technologies. This aspect of the technology of bringing a positive change can be where technological effects will be considered an exciting and innovative change for all the people. And I am sure that we’re heading in that direction. We need to indulge in a lifestyle of interaction, conversation and ideas.
That is the only way to solve big world problems. As far as the individual is considered and their role in all this, an individual should improve their life and indulge in conversation, responsibilities and ideas. Those ways he can uplift their own life with the rest of the people in the locality.
Awareness About the Effect of Technology on the Environment
People are now more aware of the environment, but mere awareness will not change anything; we need a sustainable change that will benefit the environment and uplift people socially and economically. We need more debates, conversations, exchange of ideas, facts and data interpretation to ignite such change. That way, we can come to a great conclusion, which will improve the current situation, and we can be more optimistic about a better future.
What makes a better future? It’s the sacrifices we made in the present, and if we find a balance of what we have to sacrifice for a better and more fruitful future, then we can generate a wave of change. And there’s nothing impossible if we start working together today. And we must work towards a future worth striving for, where there is more peace and harmony between human beings and the environment.
Winding Up
At last, I want to say that we can’t change the past, and whatever side effects technological developments have made on the environment are out of our hands. But we must respect those innovations as those innovations are responsible for putting human civilisation on growth and developmental paths. These technological innovations are necessary for people to have such conversations regarding the conservation of the environment. Also, we need to learn from the mistakes that we made in the past that led to some catastrophic events in the world and still impact the world.
